Family Planning; To do or not to do๐Ÿ˜…

Hey there!

Today is the beginning of a new school term. Yay!

It is usually a bitter sweet feeling for me. Sweet because the kids will be in school and I will get to concentrate on work fully.

Bitter because I have to wake up early enough so as to be able to cook and get the kids ready for school. ๐Ÿ˜I am sure you can tell already I am not a morning person. So what to do? I suck it up and put on my game face!

A few days back I had a conversation with a friend that revolved around family, kids and family planning. She asked me if really was done having kids and when I said “Yes,I believe so.”  She then said she had assumed I was dealing with secondary infertility.I said no,this wasn’t the case.

We got talking and  family planning methods came up;she had been using condoms with her husband and she didn’t particularly like them. This prompted the discussion on what is ‘safe’ for family planning as she wanted to know my experience with my method.

I decided to write about this because I realized that quite a number of women do not really research or ask the necessary question as to what method of family planning is safe or ideal for them.Since I am not a healthcare personnel however much I know on the topic, I can only write from my experience.

When my son was about 11 months old, Mike and I had agreed that we did not want anymore kids at least not immediately. I told  him I wanted to find a suitable method for me, I read up on the available methods and I had previously  attended lectures and asked a lot of questions about the available methods. I also talked to my mum( she is a retired midwife/nurse).

I decided to go with the copper intra              uterine device ( copper IUD) . I chose            this method because it was the least              likely to interfere with my system,                  hormones  and  menstrual cycle as it             was non- hormonal.

           To be continued๐Ÿ˜Š
