Know Thyself

A friend called me up about  a particular rave of the moment ‘investment opportunity’. I listened and thanked her for telling me about it. I gave it a thought, it was tempting,30% interest in 30 days, the business and money making part of my brain got excited and then I heard it; that small quiet voice in my head, that said ” if it sounds too good to be true,it probably is”. I was deflated.

Over the years,if there is one thing I have learnt about myself, it is that no quick money making venture ever works for me.The way I have finally come to understand it is this, God always blesses the “works of my hands” translate this to God blesses everything I ‘ work’for, I have to be involved somehow. I remember a time I went to play ‘kalo-kalo’ with my cousin, I can’t remember what she won, after several tries, I got a box of matches😑matches was 2 for 5 naira or so at that time and I had spent close to 50 naira on playing. So I knew it was time to go home. Another time,I think it was 2005 or 2006,I am not so sure,a friend called me up to tell me about this investment, evrybody was doing it,put in money, after a certain number of days or weeks as the case may be,you can triple your money,a friend had done it,he had done it,several people were doing it.I was happy,Ah owode! So I took his account number and went to send him some money, weeks later,I was walking on air,it was time to collect returns from my investment. My friend called me,the office was locked, they had moved with no forwarding address. Ehn????

Several other times I can’t even mention, so I sat down and thought about it long and hard,I made up my mind never to involve myself in anything like that again,no matter how much is involved,no matter who is going into it and no matter how much they have made out of it. I have learnt to know myself and above all, I have learnt to place everything I want to do before the one who created and knew me even before I was formed. That way,I know that I am covered. I can never go wrong with putting God first and knowing what works for me and what does not. At the end of the day, what works for me may not work for you and what works for you may also not work for me. Just know thyself.
