My locs and I

My hair had been itchy for a few days and didn’t smell as good to me as I love my hair to smell(well ‘the boo’ said it smelt just fine to him,it didn’t to me?).This night,I decided to wash my hair;when I really want squeaky clean hair,I wash it myself. While washing my hair and trying to get to the roots,I remembered 5 years ago when I first decided I was tired of ‘my saloon issues’ and decided to try out locks…

It was 6 weeks after I had Nicole,I went to this saloon somewhere in Garki and this nervous looking guy(that guy was definitely on something? and it had to be something really cheap) said he was my hair stylist and spent almost 3 hours rubbing my head and ears sore?periodically,he would take off and come back reeking of ‘ogogoro’ and continue with the torture. From time to time,my hubby would ask me “are you ok?”I would just give him a slight nod? By the time I got back home,my mum looked at me and asked,I thought you said you were going to make your hair?I said ” yes,the hair is made” She said ” you won’t go back tomorrow to finish it?”By this time hubby could not hold back the laughter?

Then some days later,I met this lady at a friend’s house, she had locks ‘too’ and they were beautiful. She gave me the number of her hair stylist and then the real locks started?Five years on,I have beautiful, thick and luscious looking love locks. Life is a lot like my journey with locks;you try your hand at something and fail woefully, friends, family and everyone may even laugh at you. But you need to dust yourself up and try again and again, and again till you get it right. You may not get it right the first, second ,third or even 6th time, but keep trying. One day, you’ll have cause to look back and smile.

Everywhere I go now, people say “I like your hair,I love your hair, your hair is so beautiful” but it took a whole lot of patience and care to nurture this hair to where it is now. People only see the beauty and how nice the hair is now,but they don’t know that there were times I almost cut it because it was taking too long to grow or that even the first time I tried,it was horrible and I had endured ogogoro stench to get what I wanted. Whatever it is you are doing now or you just started that seems not to be going the way you planned, just keep at it,try as many times as it takes. One day, just like my locks,it will blossom?

Goodnight folks!
