That Raggedy, Old Tshirt
It has been some kind of day๐ It was not really a bad day,it was just a ‘bleh’ kind of day. Hope you had a good day?๐
So,today,I want to talk about something that happened to me some days ago. I had been piling up my night shirts for some days;yea! I am a night shirt kinda girl๐ It is comfortable,it is easy to throw off,it can ride as high as you want it to ๐and it is usually cotton. Cotton is my favourite kind of fabric for many reasons. Oops!๐I digress.
I was saying,I had my night tees piled up and on a weekday after the kids had left for school and Ogbeni Michael for work,I decided to throw them in the washing machine before I get on to my work for the day,(remember ,I currently run a home office๐). I threw in everything and started washing.
I had recently gotten 3 beautiful, new night shirts and they were in the WM alongside the others, imagine my shock when i opened the machine and realized that my nightshirts were all now like campala,a vivid red colour had run all over my nightshirts, there were about 6 of them in the machine alongside the 3 newbies๐ฑ
I frantically searched through for the offending cloth,I didn’t recall having any red night tee๐ฉ Then i found it,it was an old, raggedy tee shirt I have had for a while now,it wasn’t particularly fine or anything,I wear it around the house but it was now slightly faded,it was not meant to be in that pile of clothes plus Mike had been asking me to throw it out for a while because it was old and didn’t look good anymore but it was oh so comfortable๐๐. Now,all my night shirts except one one have red colour all over them, including the new ones, some looked like I was stoned with red dye, other have the colours spread evenly so that they just look different. Thanks to that stupid old tee,all my night shirts are now tainted. ๐ญ
As I made to wear one of them tonight,it occurred to me that sometimes, our lives play out this same way. We allow baggage that we should have long done away with to travel along with us and taint our present or even our future.
You know,we cannot undo the past, however,we can grow and learn from it. Take the lesson and move on. Let it go and keep pressing forward. The past is that old raggedy tee,you may not even consciously realize that you are “putting it in the pile” ,till it has mixed with everything and spread the taint. Are you holding on to any old, raggedy tees today?
Throw them out! Let your pile only consist of the present and the future while remembering the lessons.
This is me in my tainted night shirt saying to you, that past is past, lay it to rest and do not let it taint your happiness ๐. Throw it out and give yourself permission to be happy. You deserve it!
